VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE YWCA

Monthly Newsletter of the YWCA Help Line

                  
Volunteers are trained as professional aides to offer supportive services to individuals in need in our community. They perform essential tasks, such as:

  • Outreach Volunteers

             Volunteers living in Idaho, Lewis, or Clearwater counties to provide support to victims.
             Court Support Volunteers:  Needed to attend court procedings with clients, 10+ hrs of training.
             Emergency response Volunteers:  Needed to respond to hospital calls for sexual assault victims.
             Volunteers must complete 15-30 hours of training (many videos that can be done at home).
             Duties include sitting with victim in hospital setting, informing victims of their rights, and general advocacy.  

  • Helpline Phone Volunteer

            To provide support for clients seeking assistance on weekends and after hours.

Minimum of one shift per month.  Answer phone from your home.

15 hours initial training (most of this training is videos watched at home).

15 additional hours of training in first three months.

Must be a good listener, objective, non-judgmental.  

  • Tutor – Kid’s Club After School Program/Summer Fun Program

           Increase school success for children living in the YWCA Transitional housing.  Help students improve grades
           and attendance.
  Attend regularly scheduled sessions.  Complete tutor activity report.Must have a genuine interest
           in youth and support educational growth.

  • Office Support – Maintenance Support

            Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs during business hours.  If the volunteer has a couple of hours to come
             in, there would be something available for him/her to do. 

            Advance arrangements are preferred. 

                        Folding brochures and assembling information packets

                        Filing

                        Distributing flyers around town

                        Writing thank you notes

                        Assist with preparations for the annual Domestic Violence Conference

                        Bulk mailings

                        Organizing/cleaning storage room and food cabinets

                        Putting up donations (especially around the holidays)

                        Making food packs

                        Cleaning/sweeping parking lot

                        Assisting maintenance staff with projects

  • Assisting with fundraising activities

  • Participating on the Board of Directors
